Fast-Growing Trees and Bushes for Privacy on the Front Range

April 29, 2021

Even if you get along with your neighbors, every homeowner enjoys having some privacy in their backyard. One of the best ways to create privacy is by strategically planting shrubs and trees. This article will take a look at some of the best trees you can plant for privacy in your Front Range home. In addition to giving you the privacy you crave, trees are good for the environment—and they can increase the value of your property.

At Root Tree Service, we can help take care of the new trees you plant as well as those already on your property. When you need a Denver tree service, we welcome you to give us a call!

The Benefits of Privacy Trees and Bushes

You can certainly put a fence up to create a privacy barrier, but in some cases, your HOA might not allow a high fence. We recommend evergreen trees and bushes because they provide a lovely green barrier, regardless of the change of season.

Evergreens with dense branches keep your space private, and they are also effective at blocking noise and wind. They’ll need to be trimmed on a regular basis, but they won’t require the same kind of maintenance and repairs that fences do. Evergreens are also hardy, surviving well in our dry Colorado climate.

So now we have the million-dollar question: Which trees and shrubs provide privacy and grow quickly in our state? Hardscapes have the benefit of serving their purpose as soon as the project is finished. With nature, you’ll have to wait a bit longer.

Fast-Growing Trees for Privacy

Here are some of our favorites:

Canadian hemlock. These are incredibly versatile trees that can be planted close together. You can trim them into hedges or let them grow up to their full height and width, which is about 70 feet tall and 35 feet wide. These beauties can grow as much as 12 to 14 feet each year.

Green Giant Thuja. These gentle giants grow up to 5 feet in a year, and they reach about 40 feet at full maturity. They get plenty wide, so you don’t need to plant them as close together as some.

Norway spruce. This is the fastest-growing spruce we recommend, and you can expect it to grow about 3 feet every year. When they are fully mature, they can be up to 40 to 60 feet tall and 25 to 30 feet wide; these are especially well suited for bigger yards.

Spartan juniper. These are compact conifers that grow taller rather than wider, so you can put them just a few feet apart. They reach up to 15 feet tall, growing up to 2 feet in a year.
